Scammell Frameless Tanker 1926
The frameless tanker was developed by Scammell to reduce unladen weight by having the tank double as a container and support for the load. This 1926 model was one of the first in the field in the bulk transport of fresh milk by road, before then a preserve of the railway companies. Although the journey by road from Somerset to London took eleven hours in those early days as against three hours by rail. In time road transport would take all milk traffic throughout Britain away from the railways.
